The Gloucester Sea Serpent, also known as The Cape Ann Sea Serpent, was repeatedly seen in the area of Gloucester Bay and Nahant Bay, Massachusetts, USA. The first sighting was in August of 1817, the first sighting/report was supported by several fishermen-- but wasn't taken seriously until a week after the initial report. Many more people claimed to have seen the serpent, like Solomon Allen III, Amos Story, and several others. For a while, there was a group of twenty or thirty people including the Justice of Peace of Gloucester. That day, four armed boats were sent in pursuit of the monster, and apparently hit the serpent with a musket ball to the head. There was no damage to the serpent. Despite the numerous sightings and tales of encounters, the existence of the Gloucester Sea Serpent remains a subject of debate and skepticism.
